At Mirabile M.D., many of our patients get facial treatments regularly as part of their skincare regimen and complexion management. Facials are very effective in keeping skin looking bright and youthful. However, proper pre- and post-facial care is vital to getting the most out of your facial treatment. Therefore, we want to share with you our favorite types of facials and how to care for your skin both before and after a facial.
Types of Facials at Mirabile M.D.
You have a couple of options when deciding on a facial treatment from Mirabile M.D. The following are three facial treatments that our team provides, as well as what you need to know about caring for your skin pre- and post-facial.
1. HydraFacial
HydraFacials are a great way to remove dead skin cells and impurities. The treatment also combats free radicals like toxins and sunlight by replenishing antioxidants. Other benefits of HydraFacials include reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, clearing pores, treating acne, and improving hydration and oiliness.
It is important to take care of your skin correctly before and after a HydraFacial so that you are sure to see the benefits of the treatment.
Before Your HydraFacial
There are a few things you will need to do leading up to your HydraFacial. You’ll want to avoid using exfoliants for at least 48 hours before your treatment. You should also refrain from waxing and certain skincare. products, depending on how sensitive your skin is. Ask your provider for a list of products to avoid using leading up to your treatment.
After Your HydraFacial
After your HydraFacial, there are certain things you should avoid. First, don’t wash your face or shower for at least six hours. Additionally, you shouldn’t work out or do any other type of physical activity that will cause you to sweat for those same six hours. You should use sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher.
2. Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning is an exfoliating treatment that removes dead skin cells from the outer layer of the skin. The treatment will also remove fine facial hair and improve the texture and tone of your skin. While there is no downtime required following a Dermaplaning treatment, there are certain things you should do afterward to protect your skin from damage and get the most out of your Dermaplaning treatment.
Before Demaplaning
Other than preparing for proper care following your treatment, there is not much required of you for pre-Dermaplaning skincare. You should be sure to remove all of your makeup before your appointment.
After Dermplaning
For two weeks following your Dermaplaning appointment, you should implement a simple skincare routine, using a gentle cleanser, hyaluronic acid, and lightweight moisturizer. Since Dermaplaning is an exfoliant, you should steer clear of exfoliating your skin for two weeks after your treatment. Your skin will be sensitive.
You’ll want to avoid sun exposure for three to five days post-treatment; however, if going out into the sun is inevitable, you should wear an SPF of 30 or higher and a hat to cover your face from sun exposure.
3. VI Peel
VI Peels improve various skin conditions as well as your skin’s overall health and vitality. This treatment option is an appropriate choice for treating acne, sun damage, age spots and melasma, or mild scarring. VI Peels can be done on the face, neck, and hands. There are several VI Peel options designed for specific problems, including the VI Peel Acne and VI Peel Precision Plus.
Before Your VI Peel
Before getting a VI Peel, you should meet with your provider to determine the appropriate option for your skin. If you have sensitive skin, you should stop using any retinol or acid-based serums two to three days before your peel. However, if you don’t have sensitive skin you can use these products the night before without issue.
After Your VI Peel
Unlike other facials, VI Peels will require a little downtime as your skin begins to peel. After a VI Peel, you can expect one to two days of redness followed by two to three days of peeling. Your skin will be sensitive, so proper care is important. Avoid applying makeup until the day after your treatment. Your esthetician will provide you with special cleansing and moisturizing skin care products to use for a few days following your treatment.
When directed by your esthetician, wash your skin with the mild cleanser. After washing with a cleanser, you should apply the provided post-peel retinoid towelette to the area for 30 to 45 minutes. You’ll repeat this process for the day following your appointment, as well.
Apply VI Derm moisturizer after peeling begins. It is important to refrain from picking the skin to prevent redness, irritation, and hyperpigmentation. After six days, you can resume your regular skincare routine. Like the post-care treatment for the other facials, it is essential that patients wear sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
